How to Conquer a Weight Loss Plateau

There are two main problems with weight loss – either hitting a plateau or gaining back what you lost.

Healthy Weight Loss Means Healthy Detoxification

When we lose weight, we rid our body of excess fat, losing inches in the process.  What is happening is our fat cells are becoming smaller, taking up less room in the body providing us with a slimmer version of ourselves.  Now think about what is retained in those fat cells on a regular basis – toxins.  Every day we are exposed to hundreds of toxins, most of them fat soluble.  When our fat cells shrink, these toxins become released into the body and can halt our progress.  I always monitor my patient’s detoxification processes as they lose weight. Even when doing a regular detox some people can feel very uncomfortable. When this happens during weight loss, we are less likely to workout and our motivation can quickly plummet.  Simple detoxification methods include 1.5L of water with fresh squeezed lemon juice or castor oil packs over the liver.  At the clinic we also offer Infrared Detox Saunas and Ion Foot Baths to help sppeed up the detoxification process.

Every Mouthful Counts

Everything you put into your body need to do something – get broken down for energy or stored in the body as a fuel reserve.  Always be mindful of artificial sweeteners and additives on the nutrition labels of the foods you are eating.  High fructose corn syrup is rampant in most foods and can really back up your liver’s natural detoxification processes.  High fructose corn syrup is not nutrition and will cause digestive problems and increase fat deposition.  Do not eat this!

Other additive to watch for include MSG, aspartame, sucralose, saccharin, food dyes (red 40, blue 1), sodium nitrate and nitrite and partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.  All of these additives are not recognized as food by the body and will be stored in the body, usually as fat.
