No Motivation to Workout

Andrea Maxim, ND

What to do when you don’t want to workout at the end of the day

You just had a busy day. You’re exhausted. What you want to do is grab a glass of wine, a bag of popcorn, sit your butt on the couch and watch Dancing with the Stars. (or Survivor if it’s Wednesday night or TGIT if it’s Thursday).

You promised yourself that you wouldn’t let laziness stop you from getting fit. You know that this routine is what got you to the size that you’re at in the first place.
So what do you do?

Don’t Do a Full Workout, Just do the Warmup

Sometimes I don’t even change my day clothes and just bust out a 5-15min warmup. Throw on the 7min workout or a quick YouTube video and when that 15min is up, if I don’t want to continue… I wont.

I bet you though, if you commit to a 15min warm up, you will start to feel a lot better and you can complete that workout you wanted to do.
Your adrenaline starts to kick in. Your endorphins rise Your heart rate increases. You’re gonna start feeling good.
Let’s also be honest, we all know that how we’re feeling when we get home and how we’re going to feel after a workout. Don’t base whether you exercise on how you feel.
And don’t be afraid to dumb down the workout either:

  • Make it half as long as you wanted, instead of 60min do only 30min and promise yourself that you’ll stop at 30min (if you want to)
  • Use lower weights or decrease the intensity
