Red Clover Improves Hot Flashes and Night Sweats

Red Clover Isoflavone for Hot Flashes and Night Sweats in Postmenopausal Women

Written by Andrea Maxim, Naturopathic Doctor

Herbs like black cohosh and wild yam have been used in most menopausal support formulas.  Red clover may also be another herb to add to your menopause treatment kit.

Just over 100 women, ages 40+ were assigned to two groups: Group A started with red clover (80mg per day) and ended with placebo whereas Group B was the opposite.  The group’s medication were switched after a 7 day wash-out period half-way through the 90 day study.  Both groups when treated with red clover had a significant improvement in menopausal symptoms: decrease of hot flashes of 73.5%, night sweats of 72.2% and overall intensity of 75.4%.  When the groups switched, Group A’s symtoms worsened while Group B, the new treatment group’s symptoms improved.
