7 Day Detox: Day 7

With the shakes completed, I decided to introduce foods slowly. For the rest of you following along, if you want to see it out until the last possible minute of Day 7 keep going!! You’re doing awesome! The morning was still the usual for the week, steamed broccoli and beans and one black coffee. Doing a Health Fair all day I barely had time to take a break and eat.

7 Day Detox: Day 6

This morning was another early rise – 6:15am to get ready for a very important event. What event do you ask?? Well I was to receive recognition and an award for Youth Entrepreneur of the Year 2012 for Haldimand County. On my drive to the breakfast, I thought maybe I will just eat with everyone else, break this cleanse.

7 Day Detox: Day 5

Woke up this morning at 7:30am and the first thing I started doing was listing all the yummy breakfast foods I was going to have – boiled eggs, toast, butter. This was quickly squashed when reality kicked in and realized I was still on this stupid all vegetable cleanse. Errg! (as you can tell, some resentment has crept in).

7 Day Detox: Day 4

One of my personal goals is to remain as cool and calm as possible. I am trying to not let stress affect me, trying not to obsess over things that have happened in the past and trying not to read too much into conversations or written words when I don’t need to. I have found over the past few weeks that I am better able to allow negativity roll off my back and have become more self-assured and self aware.

7 Day Detox: Day 3

Preparing the meals was easier today. I did a huge grocery shop yesterday and laughed at myself at the check out line as my entire basket was green compared to other peoples boxed foods, potato chips and sugary beverages. I can only imagine what these people were thinking… what kind of diet is she on??

7 Day Detox: Day 2

Early morning wake up, 6:30am on a Sunday, but off to be inspired by the amazing runners (especially my little sis) at the Scotiabank Waterfront Marathon in Toronto. Knowing that I would be away from home for hours, I steamed 2 cups of vegetables and brought along a huge salad as well as the detox shake.

7 Day Detox: Day 1

I always complete a detox program every spring and fall. Normally I opt for the hypoallergenic detox – lean meats (chicken and fish), vegetables, berries and dairy alternatives. All soy, sugar, alcohol, corn, gluten and cow dairy must be avoided at all times. Well, I’ve mastered this form of eating so I decided to amp it up this time.

Coke Campaign: Come Together

While I certainly respect Coca Cola for acknowledging the weight crisis we have in North America, I find the commercial more of a new marketing tactic than a true desire to make changes to people’s diet. In the commercial Coke claims that of their 650 products, 180 are now low-calorie or calorie free.

Salivary Hormone Testing

Never discount the importance of understanding the signs and symptoms your body shows during hormone excess or deficiency. A detailed intake is always the most important aspect of developing a treatment plan. Sometimes naturopathic doctors need more quantitative data to get a well-rounded clinical picture of how your hormones are functioning in the body.

Low Stomach Acid

If you suffer from digestive upset and you’re unsure why? You are not alone. “More than 20 million Canadians suffer from digestive disorders every year” says the Canadian Digestive Health Foundation (http://www.cdhf.ca/digestive-disorders/statistics.shtml). Many suffer from low stomach acid without even knowing and I am finding in my practice that to be the root cause of many of my patients digestive issues.
